Screen reader poll.

Category: Let's talk

Post 1 by American James (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 14-Oct-2014 14:40:09

I am currently working on an accessibility project, and I would greatly appreciate it if as many people as possible would state what their primary screen reading software is. Thank you

My screen readers are orca and speakup.

Post 3 by DevilishAnthony (Just go on and agree with me. You know you want to.) on Tuesday, 14-Oct-2014 16:18:46

I use Jaws for the most part, but use NVDA in situations where jaws won't read something. Sometimes, one reader will read when the other won't.

Post 6 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Tuesday, 14-Oct-2014 21:16:31

I use Jaws 15 and NVDA about equally.

Post 7 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 14-Oct-2014 21:40:23

Jaws 16 beta currently. I use Jaws all the time.

NVDA

Post 9 by Animal metal (I'm a martian) on Tuesday, 14-Oct-2014 21:50:53

NVDA

Post 10 by Shaydz (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 0:21:01

Using NVDA and if I need JAWS, I'll run it in demo mode. That's for the PC, but I am most
often on my iPad with VoiceOver.

Post 11 by season (the invisible soul) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 0:34:45

NVDA for 90% of PC, and JAws for the rest. Voiceover for most of the time as i'm using Mac as my primary computer, and voiceover for other portable technology

Post 12 by johndy (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 3:56:47

WindowEyes 8.whatever. Voiceover on the Mac side. Hope to be using more Voiceover in future especially now that I'm considering an Iphone 6.

Post 13 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 12:22:16

Jaws 13 and nvda.

Post 14 by bea (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 14:35:11

Jaws 15 and have used jaws since one of the first versions came out.

Post 15 by silly_singer (The girl who's always lost in a melody) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 17:18:29

I use VoiceOver for Mac OS X and IOS.
On the odd occasions that I use windows these days, I use Jaws and NVDA
about equally.

Post 16 by Remy (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 19:25:28

I use JAWS 15 and Zoomtext at work, JAWS 15, Magic and occasionally NVDA at home.

Post 17 by rusty81 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Wednesday, 15-Oct-2014 23:22:10

for windows, jaws and nvda for back-up and voiceover for mac and ios...

Post 18 by Imprecator (The Zone's Spelling Nazi) on Thursday, 16-Oct-2014 5:19:56

Jaws since 1998.

Post 19 by Faial (Zone BBS Addict) on Thursday, 16-Oct-2014 7:33:15

NVDA for the PC and Voiceover for portable devices!

Post 20 by Scarlett (move over school!) on Thursday, 16-Oct-2014 7:49:36

NVDA on pc and voiceover on the phone.

Post 21 by Senior (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 16-Oct-2014 13:01:53

Jaws primary
NVDA secondary

Post 22 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 16-Oct-2014 22:16:22

I used JAWS since the late 90's until the late 2000's. Then since around 2009, I used NVDA primarily, plus JAWS demo or SA To Go as needed. Now since August of this year, I'm using System Access as my primary, and I also have and use JAWS 15.

Post 23 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Thursday, 16-Oct-2014 22:21:46

I do still have and get updates for NVDA on a flash drive though. And I have and use VoiceOver for my phone.

Post 24 by Leafs Fan (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Friday, 17-Oct-2014 7:55:57

I use VoiceOver on iOS devices. I use JAWS 99% of the time on PC, although I have NVDA installed and open it in a pinch if JAWS is not cutting it in a certain situation.

Post 25 by GuitarGuy (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 17-Oct-2014 12:42:10

I use JAWS mostly and occasionally use NVDA. Use voiceover with the iPhone.

Post 26 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 17-Oct-2014 17:57:06

Forgot about portable devices. All VoiceOver due to these being Apple products.

Post 27 by contradiction (aww, I always knew my opinion mattered to you!) on Friday, 17-Oct-2014 18:18:46

JAWS 11 on one laptop, JAWS 14 on the other.
Voiceover on my iPhone.
NVDA as needed.
SATOGO when I'm desperate.

Post 28 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Tuesday, 21-Oct-2014 8:34:16

JAWS 15 only on PC, unless I'm at someone's house who does not use JAWS or any other synthesizer. Then I use system access to go. I've never been in a situation where JAWS doesn't work, but another synthesizer does.
Mobile device: voiceover.

Post 29 by LittleSneezer (The Zone-BBS is my prison, but I like it here.) on Tuesday, 21-Oct-2014 11:58:48

VoiceOver

Post 30 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 21-Oct-2014 20:26:00

Use jaws 15 on my pc at home and work. Use VO on my iPhone and soon to be iPad.

Post 31 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Wednesday, 22-Oct-2014 20:44:38

It's interesting that no one answering seems to use Window Eyes. I don't use it either but know people who do. Also, now that Microsoft has struck a deal with GWMicro, I'd think more people would use it.

Post 32 by Siriusly Severus (The ESTJ 1w9 3w4 6w7 The Taskmaste) on Tuesday, 04-Nov-2014 22:39:09

That is untrue. I utilize Window eyes as my my backup and at least one other individual did claim window eyes as a primary screen reader. There are not many of us though.

My primary two are Jaws12 and voiceover. ON the windows box, Window-eyes is my first choice for backup, than NVDA

Post 33 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Friday, 21-Nov-2014 3:37:03

I am using nvda on the computer and talkback on my nexus5 phone.

Post 34 by blindaudio (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 17-Dec-2014 4:02:58

Yep, me toooooo! I'm a window eyes user! I did use jaws for a time, bfind I'm quite happy with window eyes.

Looking into system access again, as I am not a huge fan of nvda.

Post 35 by Binary solo (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Thursday, 18-Dec-2014 23:30:48

Jaws 16 most of the time on my pc. Got nvda installed on there to though.
